Online Ethics Center – National Academy

The National Academy of Engineering has a great new teaching and learning site on engineering ethics. Called the “Online Ethics Center”, it contains numerous case studies, articles, essays and curriculum ideas covering ethical issues in the academic world and in the workplace. The site is divided up into the following sections:

  • On Education
  • Safety and the Environment
  • Professional Practice
  • Employment and Legal Issues
  • Responsible Research
  • Computers and New Technology

My only gripe is that there appears to be nothing there specifically dealing with plagiarism, although there are some sections that deal with authorship (i.e. who gets credit for writing a particular research paper). But otherwise, I think this is a great resource for teaching.

I found out about this site from the September 11, 2007 issue of Stephanie Bianchi’s great Sci-Tech Library Newsletter. Thanks to Stephanie for the tip.
