It appears that an early feathered dinosaur Microraptor Gui (an ancestor to the well-known “monoplane winged” Archeaopteryx) might have flown with a wing configuration much like that of World War I biplanes. The BBC News article quotes researcher Sankar Chatterjee as saying: ” This shows us that if there is a problem in engineering, sometimes there are only one or two possible solutions.”
