New IEEE Xplore coming in 2010!
See the new interface and functionalities for the IEEE Xplore database, which will be unveiled sometime in 2010. The new changes will include:
- Simpler, cleaner interface
- Improved browsing features – making looking for particular journals and conferences easier
- Enhanced searching capabilities, including faceted browsing and refining
IEEE Xplore Upgrade
WMU Library Users now have access to more content through IEEE Xplore. Additional journals are available with articles available from 1988-present. You now will have access to additional conference proceedings and all current IEEE standards. For more information about what is included see: http://www.ieee.org/web/publications/subscriptions/prod/iel_overview.html
IEEE Xplore
http://libproxy.library.wmich.edu/login?url=http://www.ieee.org/ieeexplore/
Full-text access to all journals, transactions, and magazines published by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers with coverage from 1988; Includes IEEE conference proceedings and
all current IEEE standards.
Note: this resource is limited to fifteen simultaneous users. Please logoff when you are finished.
This database is listed on the “A-Z” list of databases and in the computer science and electrical/computer engineering subject guides.
National Technical Reports Library – Free Trial
WMU Library users have temporary trial access to an additional resource:
National Technical Reports Library
Provides the full text to 500,000 federally-funded technical reports covering such topics as Medicine & Biology, Behavior & Society, Military Sciences, Physics, Administration & Management, Urban & Regional Technology & Development, Environmental Pollution & Control, and more. Another 1.5 million technical reports are available in brief abstracts or citations, which you can order via Interlibrary Loan.
Trial ends: March 31, 2009
SAE Digital Library Free Trial – until March 8, 2009
Waldo Library is currently running a free trial of the SAE Digital Library. This database, which would be an upgrade of our current SAE Publications database, would provide the full text of all SAE Technical Papers from 1998 to the present. Caution – no PDFs will be downloadable for this trial. When you search for a paper and click on the “View Document” link, you will all be looking at the same article in PDF. This free trial is just to test the interface. But do not worry – we’re hoping to subscribe to this product after the free trial, barring any access or technical issues. Access information is below. Note also that there is a different password for each week of this two week free trial. The trial ends: March 8, 2009.
SAE Publications and Standards (full text upgrade)
http://www.elecpubs.sae.org/dl
The purpose of the trial is for you to see the functionality of the full text upgrade to the SAE Digital Library. Although you will be able to view the full-text of SAE documents, you are not permitted to download, save to a hard drive, or print any full-text documents during the trial.
Trial username: dldemo
Trial passwords:
kqwpfuy5 (valid from: 2/18/2009 to 2/22/2009)
draztkkp (valid from: 2/23/2009 to 3/8/2009)
Trial ends: March 8, 2009
CSA Illustrata: Technology Free Trial
Waldo Library is currently running a free trial of a technology database called CSA Illustrata: Technology Abstracts that retrieves thumbnails of tables, figures, and charts from journal articles. This enables you to zero in on articles that have data that you are looking for. (Note: not all the charts are immediately accessible in full text online – in many cases, you still need to track the actual article down.)
If you are interested in checking this revolutionary new search tool out, please go to the following Library proxied link (where you will be prompted for your BroncoNet ID and password):
CSA Illustrata: Technology Abstracts
Searchable database of tables, figures, charts, and other illustrations within scholarly articles. Retrieves illustrations with caption and label text. Includes more than a million illustrations, charts, graphs, maps, and other figures from more than 2000 journals in architecture, computer science, engineering, materials science and more. Coverage from 2003 to date.
Trial ends: November 30, 2008
These has been added to the Trials web page at http://www.wmich.edu/library/sg/358/6808/
Users can also connect to this trial resource through the New and Trial resources blog located at:

Trial Database – Computers and Applied Sciences Complete
Waldo Library is offering a free trial of a database called “Computers and Applied Sciences Complete” from the EBSCO Company. This database, according to the promotional literature, “provides coverage of research and development for the computing, computer theory & systems and applied sciences disciplines. CASC includes indexing and abstracts for more than 1,800 academic journals, professional publications, and other reference sources. Full text is also available for more than 730 periodicals.” This trial ends November 15, 2008.
You can access this database during the trial period either through the link above or from the Waldo Library trial databases page: http://www.wmich.edu/library/sg/358/6808/
