ACS Web Editions PDF problem – Take 2

Well, Deborah Mouw, our electronic resources specialist, has showed me the following trick for temporarily changing the settings on Mac Firefox so that it will load the PDFs from the American Chemical Society Site (ACS Web Editions) in Mac Preview, from which one can read, print, and download/save them.

Procedure:

• In Firefox, go to the Tools menu
• Scroll down and select “Add-ons”
• Click on PDF download.
• Click on Preferences.
• Click on PDF Opening.
• Select “Use PDF Plugin”
• Close out this box. Your browser will now load ACS pdf’s in Mac Preview.

Those of you who have Mac computers will have to follow this procedure (or try upgrading your Safari browser, which may help) in order to view PDFs from the American Chemical Society site. Hopefully, the American Chemical Society will see the error of its ways and begin supporting the Safari browser.
